After much planning and discussion, the committees of VIVA Quad Cities (VIVA) and the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GQCHCC) organizations have made the difficult decision to cancel their 2021 major fundraising events due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, as well as the comfort of supporters. Both annual events were scheduled for September, celebration month of the Hispanic Heritage.
Even though the annual fundraisers will not be held, the missions remain. This year, the organizations have joined forces to establish a letter campaign and video event themed Mariachis and Margaritas to be released on September 9th. In addition, a fun filled Quad Cities Best Margarita contest will be launched to encourage support for our businesses. The friendly contest is to market and highlight area establishments, while encouraging patrons to visit.
The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce supports and enhances business success and unique contributions to our Hispanic and cultural identities. Since 2008, the organization has excelled supporting, promoting, and enhancing the growth and success of business and organizations, with expertise of our unique Hispanic and multicultural identities.
For almost 30 years the VIVA Fiesta has been a opportunity to highlight the rich culture and positive contributions of the Hispanic community, while providing college scholarships to Quad City area students. The Fiesta itself has raised over $250,000 in scholarship funds. VIVA, a partner of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and its scholarship program, have combined and awarded over $985,000 to 1,180 Quad City area students in support of higher education. While this year’s Fiesta has been cancelled, those students who received scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year will still be distributed. VIVA Quad Cities takes great pride in distributing 100% of our profits to our college scholarship fund.
