Spring 2021 Message From the President...
Spring is one of my favorite times of year when grass, trees and my garden turn green and the warm air arrives. It’s amazing what has sprouted during the cold weather months at GRHRA. We have a full 2021 calendar of member events with the hope of shifting to in-person in September. This truly is a collaboration of many board members coming together and sharing their expertise not only in HR but in their SHRM leadership roles.
In addition to GRHRA events, our Treasurer and DEI Co-Chair, Liz McCredden was selected to be the Iowa SHRM Conference Director this year. This is a wonderful honor to have her recognized for her diligent work on the 2020 state conference and her active role in our local chapter. Congratulations Liz! Others on our board have also volunteered for a position to help with the State Conference. Jan Dolan is a Co-Chair for Registration and Matt Rednour is a Co-Chair for Sponsorship. GRHRA member, Joanna Davis has also stepped in as the Conference app and social media chair. The conference will be held October 6-8 in Des Moines and we highly encourage our members to attend. If you or your company may be interested in a sponsorship opportunity at the conference, please feel free to reach out to Matt. Thank you again, Liz, Matt, Jan and Joanna! They will all be fantastic in their roles. Let’s show them our support! For more information on the conference visit HR – All In!
Our collaboration with other Iowa SHRM chapters continues to build momentum through a SHRM Certification Spring study group. Cheryl Riley-Hayles, Co-College Relations Director, and Lea Ann Dies, Vice President, coordinated a partnership with Cedar Valley SHRM in Waterloo-Cedar Falls and EIHRA in Cedar Rapids. Each chapter has a volunteer who has accepted a rotation to lead different study sessions. There are over 20 regular participants involved in this study group to earn their SHRM Certification. Hats off to all participants for investing in your professional status as an HR leader.
We continue on our path towards achieving 100% SHRM Chapter status. I hope our members were able to attend live or watch our recorded session in March with Delight Deloney, SHRM Field Services Director. Delight presented the many benefits there are to being a national SHRM member. If you missed her presentation and the March meeting, visit the following link to get all the news! March 2021 Delight will return over the summer for another event with expanded detail.
The majority of our members are already SHRM members and know the advantages to having access to information, articles, templates, SHRM Foundation research and more. As leaders in the HR field we all need partners to help us in our daily success. SHRM is one of those partners. I personally do not know what I would do without the information I gain from SHRM to supplement the projects in my daily work. Once you give yourself the gift of being a SHRM member you will feel the same.
We look forward to seeing you in person soon, but until then stay connected, stay healthy, and stay safe!
Lauri Flanagan, SHRM-SCP
