Detailed Member Benefits
We encourage you to get involved!
Meetings are typically held the third week of the month, although the date can vary depending on the speaker's availability. It is best to check the calendar for scheduled events. Most meetings are lunch events, but we do have one to two breakfast events to draw in people who can't get away during the day. Speakers at the meetings present information on valuable and informative topics and cover a variety of human resource disciplines. Doors open at 11:00 at every event, which allows HR professionals to expand their network of contacts and share information relevant to the profession. Lunch is usually served buffet style around 11:20. You will have time to visit with others at your table, participate in a short business meeting, hear more information from our sponsor (if we have one), and the speaker will begin around noon.
You can network with your peers before and after each monthly meeting. We encourage members to get to know one another not only in a professional capacity, but on a more personal level as well. Although GRHRA's goal is to provide programs that are informative and valuable learning opportunities, we also believe it is important for HR professionals to find some time to enjoy themselves and meet others. We would like to have more networking events in the future and encourage those of you who are good at event planning to step up and offer some creative ideas for networking. In the past we have held golf outings, a wine tasting, and a new member breakfast.
Professional Development - Workshops and Seminars
GRHRA has provided extended workshop and seminar programs each year. Our topics have included legislative issues, succession planning, diversity, and a variety of other topics. Most of our meetings provide HRCI recertification credit hours.
The Legislative Committee's goal is to provide our members with timely information on current legislative issues. Because we have two bordering states and members from each side of the river, you will receive special notices on legislation that will affect both Iowa and Illinois. We are very interested in getting more members involved in the legislative process. Our membership includes attorneys that have provided us with a wealth of information on topics that affect all HR professionals.
Newsletters and Bulletins
Members will receive notices of meetings, events, conferences, job openings, legislative updates, etc. We also will be sending informative articles about current issues that affect our field. In addition, we provide opportunities for companies, organizations, and colleges to promote upcoming events.
Members have a free service to advertise HR openings in their organizations in order to find qualified candidates. We also accept HR job postings from recruiters and non-members for $50 per posting.
You also have the opportunity to develop your career opportunities and enhance your professional status through national Certification as a Professional in Human Resource Management. Certification by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) is a distinguished honor among human resource professionals, demonstrating mastery of the field and challenging you to stay abreast of new developments. We have a partnership with Black Hawk College to advertise upcoming PHR, SPHR, GPHR and Payroll classes and GRHRA encourages members to form study groups throughout the year to assist in preparing for the exam.
Companies who lend their support to our organization can assist us by sponsoring our events and promoting their services. We are always looking for partnerships in the community with companies and/or organizations who are interested in advancing educational services for HR professionals and business leaders in all companies.
Standard committees - such as Programs, Membership, Legislative, Workforce Initiatives, College Relations, Communications, Recertification, Diversity, and SHRM Foundatioin work to achieve the immediate and long-range goals of GRHRA. Once approved for membership, we encourage you to participate in one of these committees. Volunteer opportunities are flexible. Just let us know what kind of time you can commit and we will help you determine an area of need that you can fill!
